TASTES OF ROME

THE PIANA OF SELE
The Sele, from the ancient word "Selia", is one of the most important rivers of the Tirrenico slope. today the area is famous for its production of buffalo milk mozzarella cheese, where the combination of technology and tradition come together to produce one of the most imitated cheese in the world. The history of the cheese has ancient origins. The Normans were the first to bring buffalo to the island of Sicily and since that time, the milk of the buffalo was used to make mozzarella cheese. the first written account dates back to the 12th century, when the monks of San Lorenzo in Capua would offer the cheese to pilgrims who visited their monastery.  The term "mozzarella", refers to the way in which the cheese was made or the "mozzatura", done by wrapping the strings of the cheese between the index finger and the thumb.

THE COUNTRIES OF OIL
Olive oil from the Campania region of Italy, may be considered one of the most important ingredient in the Mediterranean diet. In recent years, it has become competitive with olive oils from other Italian regions on a national level.

Groves of centuries old olive trees as well as acres of vyneyards, are characteristic of the Campania region.

ON THE PATH OF BACCO (WINE TASTING)
The Campania region boasts an ancient tradition of wine production and is one of the first centers of vineyard cultivation in the world. The Greeks brouthg the first grape vines to Italy, which they planted in a ground that they found to be so fertile that years later the Romans would refer to it as "felix". Today   the descendants of those first wines-productors, make wines like Falanghina, Greco di Tufo, Aglianico del Taburno, Gragnano and many others which are different among themselves but share one common ground: an ancient history.

THE ROADS OF CHEESE
The cheeses which are produced in the Campania region, are famous throughout the world, with the buffalo milk mozzarella cheese of Caserta and Salerno.  The five provinces that make up the Campania region, produce several kinds of cheeses, such, as the provolone del Monaco, coming from the area of Monte Lattari, the pecorini of Maltese and Irpinia, ricotta, caprini cheeses seasoned with herbs, scamorza and provole cheeses.

FROM ROSOLIO TO LIMONCELLO
In recent years, limoncello has become one of the most popular liquors on the national and international markets. The origins of limoncello are contested among Sorrento, Capri and Amalfi.

Limoncello is the favourite liquor of the pop star Avril Lavigne and it is mentioned in her song "I Can Do Better" and "I will drink as much Limoncello as I can and I'll do it again and again".
