ISCHIA Ischia an island of undisputed charm wich attracts tourists from all over the world, is known for its beautiful beaches, unspoiled landscape, warm climate, splendid floral gardens and lemon and olive groves which give the island an intense fragrance.  It is often called the "green island" because of the lush vegetation that grows in the island all year long. According to Greek Legend, the thermal waters that flow throughtout the island are the tears that were shed by the giant Tifeo after he had been punished by Zeus.. SORRENTO Legend tells that its name comes from the mythical Sirens, half woman and half fish, whose bewitching songs lured sailors to the island only to be shipwrecked on its rock. Probably of Greek origins, it was under Roman dominion in 89 B.C.. A bishopric from 420, its rule passed to the Byzantines in 552 and from the nineth century, it was an independent duchy in constant struggle with the nearby cities of amalfi and Salerno. In 1137, the Duchy of Sorrento came under the Norman Kingdom and from thet time on, it folowed the political sort of Naples. One of Italy's oldest resort locations, the first hotel in Europe was built in Sorrento. The poet torquato Tasso was born here. Sorrento , with its characteristic streets, breathtalking views, art and history, offers to the visitors a cordial welcome, making the town one of the most popular international vacation spots in the world.
